My Reflections on the Critical English Speaking Skills Material in the Academic Speaking Course
In the second meeting of the Academic Speaking course, we discussed how to think critically while speaking in English. I found this topic particularly valuable because it teaches us to think before we speak, avoid using fillers, and build confidence in speaking English effectively.
Before diving deeper into the material, let me briefly explain what Critical English Speaking Skill is. It is the ability to speak English with a focus on critical thinking, particularly in academic contexts. This skill involves learning how to present logical arguments, evaluate information critically, and provide solutions to issues through discussions or debates. Additionally, we are trained to use precise and professional language to communicate effectively, especially when dealing with complex topics. The ultimate goal is to enable us to speak confidently while demonstrating a high level of critical thinking.
After learning this material, I became more motivated to use English more frequently in my daily life. I also feel inspired to explore debating as it is an excellent method to enhance my critical English speaking skills. Reflecting on this experience, I realized that critical thinking is not just about what we say but also how we say it. It requires clarity, precision, and confidence, which are essential not only for academic success but also for effective communication in any context.
